Little Ones Loving "practicing"!

I hear from the parents all the time how much their kids are loving their music classes! I like to share their comments with you whenever I remember to jot them down :)


Here are a few simple and quick comments, but positive nonetheless!

"I have been meaning to tell you how much [my daughter] loves coming to class and "practicing" her sound beginnings!"

"[My daughter] and I are enjoying sound beginnings so much, I'd love to continue on and enroll her in the silver buttons semester."

"[My daughter] wants to go to music class every day. She says, "I know! Let's go to Miss Kendra's!""

Parent Testimonial: solfeg patterns

I was excited to hear about one little cutie and how she discovered she could play the solfeg patterns on the piano! She was playing around on the piano and played some notes that sounded like her patterns from class! She got excited and said, "Look mom, I can play sol, la, ti, do on the piano!" It's just so great that these kids are excited about music!

Her ears are very sensitive to sounds at this age (4-5) and Let's Play Music takes advantage of that by doing lots of ear-training. Using Kodaly techniques and solfeg patterns is one of the ways we do this.  Briefly, Solfeg patterns help the ear to hear a tonal center. They also train us to audiate. Audiation means to hear music in our heads without seeing it written down first or hearing it first. This is necessary for singing in tune and singing in harmony with others.

A husband asked his wife, "What does THIS teach her?"

Mother and daughter were playing with their bug flashcards. Clapping and saying the names of each of them.

"These bugs are teaching her rhythmic notation!" says the wife, as she shows him the other side of the cards.

He is amazed at the sneaky way concepts are taught in Let's Play Music, and I'm sure he replied with something like this, "Oh! I see! How wonderful that these advanced musical concepts are taught to my child in such fun and creative ways that even I was tricked into thinking it was just all fun and games!" ;)

Those adorable bugs are teaching them how to read music! They will be playing rhythms on the piano with ease as they begin their piano adventures in the second year of Let's Play Music in August.

One mom said about her 6 year-old:

...When children are 4 and 5 year-olds, we teach that harmony is two different sounds that sound good together. This simple way of describing harmony allows the child to put it into action!
