Puppet Show - Waltz of the Flowers

The Red Balloons have been performing a puppet show to Waltz of the Flowers! Waltz of the Flowers is a piece in the familiar ballet The Nutcracker, usually appearing around Christmas time. The video doesn't have a caterpillar, bird, or a mean cloud, but I think you're children will still love it! 

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky 

Tchaikovsky was a Russian composer of the Romantic era. (May 7, 1840 - November 6, 1893). Doesn't the music and ballet just sound romantic?

The Magic Lamp

The very first puppet show the kids see in Let's Play Music is The Magic Lamp! It's very exciting and exposes them to major and minor sounds as well as very clear themes. The puppet show is the favorite part of the class for most students!

Making Musicians-On the Wires

The Red Balloons talked about how balloons can get stuck "on the wires or in the spaces between the wires." Here's a fun video about what else sits "on the wires"!

Practicing Our Steps!

We had fun making use of the staff in the back of the Red Balloons manual and some Christmas candy! 

Carson really had fun playing notes from the staff! He's learning the relationship between the steps on the staff and the up and down of the bells. And he's having fun doing it! Music is fun!

Who Took the Cookie!?

We played a fun game on the last day of Red Balloons! And of course it taught us to chant to a rhythm to the steady beat of our "pat-clapping" hands! Who took the cookie from the cookie jar!

We played a little pretend as they took the cookies while my back was turned. Oh the delight!

We liked how each gingerbread boy had its own personality. Above... the dancing boy.

First Classes this Week!

3rd Year Purple Magic Students 

will learn all the note names on the staff, 

identify accidentals, 

are introduced to transposing, 

play level 1 piano repertoire,

learn about key signatures,

ABA song form 

and much more!

1st Year Red Balloon Students 

are introduced to the lines and spaces of the staff, 

sing the major scale on solfeggio syllables with hand signs,

 learn to keep a steady beat, 

match pitch using a minor 3rd, 

play melodies and ostinati on tone bells,

 learn the three primary chords on the autoharp, 

and much more!

Let's Play Music is a three-year foundational music theory course for children ages 4-6. It emphasizes singing, classical music, note reading, ear training, and piano playing. The active and playful classes teach intermediate skills and concepts that will ensure that your little musician soars through future music lessons!

Where a red balloon floats up the musical staff, bug's feet scamper about teaching how to read rhythms, and classical music becomes a puppet show!

Welcome Red Balloons!
Welcome back Purple Magic!

Thank you all for coming to the parent orientation last Thursday night! I hope you feel nice and oriented. Isn't this program just so wonderful?! I hope you're just as excited as I am for your youngsters to become such talented musicians. I'm excited to teach them that one day a week, and you get to teach them the rest of the week! Well, more like play with them. I just love that play is the main technique used to teach these musical skills and concepts, as play is a child's medium in which they learn!

Purple Magicians start on Tuesday and Red Balloons start this Wednesday. See you all then!
