Christmas Magic to our Jump Dance!

I went to the pediatrician today for Parker's 6 month well visit and discovered the doc's amazing Christmas hobby. I'm his newest fan! I especially have to share it with all my White Horses students, since the second song is our Jump Dance! aka Russian Dance by Tchiakovsky. Looking forward to the show!

Merry Christmas!

Silver Buttons Classes Start in January

Welcome to Sound Beginnings!

Where moms and kids learn to play and interact in a nurturing, loving way. Folk songs, finger plays, story books, and circle games delight children as they have for centuries. Leave the digital, plastic world behind and come to a place where human touch is the best teacher. Nestled safely in beautiful music, is the curriculum that is a sound beginning.

This fun new curriculum is specifically designed for
ages 2-4 and their parents. By providing a solid music and preschool foundation, Sound Beginnings prepares students for success in Let’s Play Music and Kindergarten! The curriculum is organized into four non-sequential semesters. Each semester is four months long and provides experience with important music concepts and skills through different songs and games. Classes include singing, movement, games, stories, and activities, focusing on different concepts each semester.

Music and Your Toddler or Preschooler (ages 1-3)

Children learn by moving! Music bonds parent to child! And lessons can "increase brain power"! This article from babycenter.com talks about the benefits of music on children between the ages of 1 and 3. It mentions what types of music are especially beneficial,  and whether learning an instrument is beneficial.

How can listening to music benefit my child?

Toddlers and preschoolers have lots to gain from listening to music. It's fun, for one thing, and it also encourages movement, which is important for young children who are perfecting their motor skills. "Kids learn through movement," says Rosalie Pratt, a professor of music medicine at Brigham Young University. "When you see them at play, they're not talking, they're moving. This is how they pick things up."

Music helps you bond with your child, too. It'll move you to dance a jig or belt out a tune, much to the thrill of your little one. Imagine the joy you'll share swaying to the beat of a lovely melody (try Stevie Wonder's "You Are the Sunshine of My Life"). Or how much fun he'll have jumping with you in an energetic musical number ("The Chicken Dance" will leave you rolling on the floor with laughter).
Sound Beginnings is research based! The classes include 30 minutes of movement, singing, games, stories, and real bonding opportunities to engage your child and bless his life.

Drum Roll Please!!

I'll be teaching a brand new and VERY exciting curriculum along with Let's Play Music in Fall 2012!
Sound Beginnings!

Sound Beginnings is for 2-4 year-olds and is all the fun and music experience of Let's Play Music without the set order of skills and need to master them. We also introduce Kindergarten skills such as letters of the alphabet, counting, telling time, name recognition and colors. Echo Ed's baby sister encourages the children to make all kinds of animal and other sounds. We still have classical music exploration, but instead of puppet shows, we have FUN movement that helps learn the form and tone of the pieces. You'll love it!

Beginning music education earlier enables us to take earlier advantage of the music learning window. Research has now proven that the music window is open as early as in the womb! Exposure to the right kinds of music EARLY on will develop musical talent as well as a enhanced brain function. (getting smarter, too!)

Age: 2-4 and younger siblings are welcome!
Class duration: 30 minutes once a week
Deposit: $30 for materials plus $5 registration fee

Registration begins in the Spring, but I have a waiting list filling up, so don't wait!

Sound Beginnings Parent Testimonials

I love the Let's Get Ready (now called Sound Beginnings) class for toddlers because it provides a fun, structured environment for children to discover a learn music! We have so much fun at the lessons, but best of all we can continue having fun at home because we attend together!

Let's Get Ready (now called Sound Beginnings) has exceeded my expectations. There is so much packed into each half-hour class. There is an understanding at what it takes to keep preschoolers engaged and interested in musical activities.
