Recital 2012

I had a great time at my 1st years' end-of-the-year program today! They did such a great job and were SO cute! 3 months off then they're back in class applying their mad skills to the keyboard! Congratulations on a great year Blue Bugs and families!

Here the kids are listening to "Argonnaise" from Carmen by Georges Bizet. They're acting out the minor theme where in our puppet show we call Magical Lamp the mean genie is out of the lamp.

For their turn on the bells, my class accompanied Miss Kristi's 3 classes with a mi,re,do ostinato while they sang 3 Blind Mice. Beautiful job!

My boy did his recital today too! Here's my 5 year old playing a major scale up and down and then a tricky ostinato during the song Do, Re, Mi. Great job kiddo! Do-mi-mi, mi-sol-sol, re-fa-fa, la-ti-ti!

Recital 2011!

We had our recital on April 19th and had a great time! I love recitals. I just love watching children on stage. Aren't they fantastic?! Always entertaining.

I'd like to give a BIG thank you to all the parents who gave their time and energy each week to bring their children to class and to come be a part of class 2-4 times a month! Also, for working (playing :) ) so hard with your children on the keyboards 5 days a week and moving and grooving with the CD's every week. Your children are becoming wonderfully talented musicians!

I'm so glad we could all be together for the recital. I had a good time and hope you did as well!

Let's Play Music Recital 2009!

It's been such a fun year! The recital is always fun and exciting. The children love showing their families all that they've learned and are so proud. I'm proud of them too! They've learned and absorbed so much. And though it takes a lot of dedication throughout the year, it's all fun and games!
The second year students demonstrated how they've applied what they learned in to first year of Let's Play Music to the piano in the second year! The students began their recital by beautifully singing their song that taught them the music alphabet. They continued by demonstrating their piano skills and concepts of chords and a downbeat! They accompanied themselves with the primary chords played marching style with, "Oh, When the Saints!"This year they added to their repertoire of rhythms, the dotted-quarter eighth-note rhythm! They love playing the song that taught them this called, "I'm an Indian!" The recital continued with a piece of music that teaches the basic fact that if the students practice everyday, they'll learn many songs! This is a difficult piece that combines all the skills they've learned. The students also got to demonstrate their skill of singing more complex harmony and concluded the recital with an expressive interpretation of Johannes Brahams’ Hungarian Dance No. 5! Such smarties, these kids :) They are just so fun to watch! At next year's recital these children will be performing their own composed pieces!

...Just as these children did! They combined all that they've learned in the past 3 years and were able to compose very beautifully written pieces. They included some or all of the following elements: ABA form, major and minor tonalities, staccato and legato articulations, an introduction and coda, and various styles of playing the primary chords.

Brittney titled her piece Carriage to Happiness. Addi's piece is The Chinese Circus. Emmy's is A Walk to the Candy Shop. And Braden's is Light of the World. They introduced their compositions and performed them memorized!

They truly are ready to soar to great heights in music education. I am sad to let them go as I've been with them for 2-3 years, but their piano new teachers will be so impressed!

Recital!

The end of the year recital is next week! Yay!

The students are working so hard and are getting excited to show their families how much they've learned!

Yellow Indians

The second year students have learned how to play the piano among many, many other things! They'll be showcasing: 

*their knowledge of the music alphabet and how it applies to the keys on the keyboard!

*their understanding of intervals. How they sound, look on the staff and keyboard, and how to play them!

*their knowledge of the downbeat and the three primary chords and how to play them in a marching style!

*playing hands together in a minor key with a dotted-quarter eighth-note rhtyhm!

*how they can  harmonize with three layers of sound!

*and finally, their comprehension of classical form and themes with a fun puppet show!

Orange Roots

The third year students have been working (playing) hard to compose a masterpiece! They've each written their own piece with all the knowledge they've accumulated over the past three years! and they are wonderful! They are well on their way to becoming complete musicians.

I'm excited for them and am looking forward to the big day!

The Cutest Recital You've Ever Been To

The recital was so fun! The students performed really well and really showed what they've learned.

The first year students showed that they've learned the Major scale, solfeg hand signs, how to accompany the group on the bells and how to sing in harmony with "Do, Re, Mi!" They sang and performed more harmony while playing a rhythmic ostinato on the tone bells with "Are You Sleeping." They showed that they've learned how to play a chord on the bells in an ostinato while accompanying the other classes with a folk song, "Old Paint." The children also learned how to read six rhythms and had fun doing so by chanting their piece about bugs! The last number in the program was their performance to a classical piece of music.

They learned major and minor tonalities and are learning how a piece of classical music is composed by recognizing different themes! These children are becoming brilliant musicians!

Blue Bugs and Yellow Indians Recital!

The end of the year recital is just around the corner on Tuesday, May 6th! I'm very excited! It's so fun to watch the excitement of these kids. They're all dressed up, looking sharp and feeling good that their family and friends are there to watch them perform. They've worked (played :) ) very hard and are proud to show us what they've learned. It's so cute!

Congratulations! You and your child have worked so hard and it's paying off as the evidence is expressing itself!
